Snowboard byl vynalezen v Americe okolo roku 1965. Nepoužívala se ještě dřevěná prkna, ale jezdilo se na rozříznutý pneumatice. No a od r. 1998 je Snowboarding olympijská disciplína..! Snowboarding je sport pro mladý duše, ale nezáleží v jakém věku s nim začnete... A díky těmto všem nadšencům vznikla snowboardová kultura s typickým stylem oblíkání, mluvy a chování... K snowboarding patří adrenalin, a proto i lidi, co mají rádi snowboarding mají logicky rádi adrenalin.. Akrobatické triky vysoko ve vzduchu, vysoká rychlost při slalomu, jízda v terénu a skákání skalních převisů.. Řiká se, že začátek je celkem snadný... Stačí mít prkno, párkrát si sjed svah a už to jde samo.. Ale asi jak komu.. =)
Jízdní styly
Freeride - je nejpopulárnější, asi díky tomu, že je to hodně uvolněný styl. Je to kombinace freestylu a carvingu.
Freestyle - jde hlavně o jízdu v neupravených terénech, různě otočky, skoky a salta, ježdění ve snowparcích, U-rampy, a překážky.
Carving - rychlá a ostrá jízda po upravené sjezdovce
